This is one of my favorite shows, and sadly I feel as if it is done rarely. One of my dream roles is to play the whacky Dentist that writes the "Midas Touch" song. BELLS ARE RINGING is such prfect show to me, because:
A. It's a story of two beautiful people that are insecure, until they find each other.
B. The show is full of real and kooky characters, that would be a blast to work on.
C. It makes NYC seem like a small town, and addresses the idea that you can be in a city with millions of people and still feel lonely, and that a simple "hello" to strangers can make a huge difference.
D. The music by Jule Styne is lush, funny, honest, sweet, romantic, quirky, and moving.
E. It's the perfect (somewhat) relatable love story.
The one song that kind of bothers me is "Drop That Name" because it is so topical and quickly became outdated. The show turned out many songs that became standards, sung by many pop artists of the time.
Judy Holliday was the real star of this show, and unfortunately she died earlier in her career.
Anyway, Recently I have been getting really antsy and trying to be proactive about my career. The audition season is slow, and all I want to do is audition. I've started adding new fun songs to my book to switch things up a little. I'm super excited about auditions picking up in the winter/spring.
In the meantime, I will continue to work on myself and make new connections. I would also like to start coaching with someone new, or take a musical theatre acting class, so I would love suggestions of people to work with!
